The call of the Cape Turtle Dove, snorting zebras sounding the alarm, the sinister cackling of a hyena, the piercing roar of a lion, the mist rising from the grasslands, the chink of a wineglass and timeless fire-gazing at the end of the day……just some of the things I’m looking forward to on safari at the 5-star Savanna Private Game Reserve in the South Africa.
Savanna is a private lodge that nestles in the game-rich Sabi Sand Reserve which borders South Africa’s famous Kruger National Park. It undoubtedly offers guests the best safari experience when it comes to African wildlife, cultural experience, delicious meals, wonderful accommodation and service that goes above and beyond.
The facilities of the main Lodge consist of a swimming pool, a dining room, lounge with spacious patio, bar and an open-air Shangaan boma, all overlooking a waterhole. Sumptuous English breakfasts and lunches are served on the veranda and dinner is served either in the dining room or in the starlit boma.
The loft above the lounge makes a pleasant nook for some quiet time as well as a bird’s eye view of the waterhole, while an adjoining library provides wireless broadband internet access and offers guests the means to transfer digital photographs, freshly captured on their safari. The lodge has a fully stocked wine cellar and bar, a well-stocked curio shop, a fully-equipped gym and spa treatments can be arranged in the privacy of your suite.
The lodge has nine beautifully furnished suites, seven of which have a tented roof and draped inner ceiling. These suites all have a permanent structure, which ensure luxury and privacy. All suites are air conditioned, provide a tea/coffee station and a well-stocked mini bar.

Stunning candle-lit dinners are available on the deck of the main lodge and on warm nights, exciting barbecues are enjoyed under the star-studded sky around a blazing fire in the open-air ‘boma’ or a candle-lit clearing in the bush. Often a local choir entertains guests during dinner in this magnificent setting.
Game viewing
The Sabi Sand private reserve covers a vast area of unspoiled African bushveld where exciting sightings of Africa’s big game can be enjoyed during early morning, late afternoon and evening game drives. 4×4 vehicles and qualified rangers who possess a vast knowledge of the African bushveld, take guests on close encounters with many wildlife species. These include the ‘Big 5’, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino along with cheetah hippo and crocodile and many more. Whilst more than 450 bird species can be observed from the comfort and safety of the open game drive vehicles. Sabi Sand is well known for some of the best leopard sightings in the world too!
Optional walking safaris are offered to guests staying at the lodge, in order to experience the beauty and fascination of Africa’s flora and fauna. Daily trips are available to the local Shangaan Village or to the scenic Panorama route, including interaction at elephant whispers.
