Today in Kenya I saw a man all dressed in red and with a white beard. He was standing on the side of the road and looked tired. I asked him if he was okay, given it’s such a busy time of the year for him. I offered him a lift home, hoping/suggesting that perhaps I might get a present from him this year. He looked at me askance and said I already had the best presents I could wish for, just look around you. He was right and I think the below video says it all, so I thought I would share this with you. I gave him a lift anyway and asked if he came from the North Pole, but of course he was too discrete and said nothing.
When I dropped him off after hours of engaging conversation and a new friendship, I waved goodbye, having taken him as far north as I could. But as I looked back I was disturbed to see him start walking off again, back the way I’d just come from in the south. It seems I’d taken him the wrong way and he was too polite to say! He did however, leave me with two great gifts. The first was to make sure you see what is all around you (not in a stocking or under a tree) and the second, is to live in the moment with whoever you are with.
I waved to the white bearded, red robed Maasai man, with a final thank you for these reminders: To enjoy the moment you’re in, live your life to the fullest and enjoy the precious moments that you spend with the special people that surround you.
