The BBC’s “Kingdom”: A Window into Zambia’s Untamed Beauty

The BBC invites viewers deep into one of Africa’s last true wildernesses with Kingdom – a stunning new wildlife documentary filmed over several years in Zambia’s legendary Luangwa Valley.
Narrated with all the drama and wonder you’d expect from the BBC Natural History Unit, Kingdom follows the lives of Zambia’s most iconic predators – from powerful lion prides and cunning hyena clans to the swift and elusive wild dogs. And at the heart of it all is the valley’s most famous resident: Olimba, the remarkable leopardess whose story has captivated filmmakers and audiences alike.
While the series reveals the incredible struggles and triumphs of these animals, it also shines a light on the landscapes that make Zambia so special – vast floodplains, ancient forests, and the life-giving Luangwa River.

For us, this story feels especially close to home. The Kingdom team spent years filming from the camps of our long-standing partners, Remote Africa Safaris. Their commitment to conservation, community, and authentic safari experiences provided the perfect base for the BBC crew.

Now, Remote Africa Safaris are opening Olimba Camp, their newest addition to the Luangwa portfolio, located right where much of Kingdom was filmed. The camp offers guests an intimate front-row seat to the same extraordinary wildlife encounters captured on screen.
A Selection of South Luangwa National Park Safari Camps
These are just a few of the camps we offer in the region, there are so many more that we know, love and visit as often as we can! When we create your tailor-made itinerary, we pick the camp that will be most suitable for you, depending on what you want from your Zambian experience!
Tafika Camp

Tafika Camp is situated adjacent to the Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. The remote location is ideal for those who really want to get away from it all. Located on the banks of the Luangwa River, it offers a relaxing and peaceful base from which to enjoy game viewing on foot and by road. There is also a huge variety of birdlife.
Mfuwe Lodge

Mfuwe Lodge is a unique lodge situated in the South Luangwa National Park. The lodge overlooks a beautiful oxbow lagoon and the area boasts one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the world. The lodge is famous for elephants who walk through the lobby to find figs!
Mwamba Bush Camp

Mwamba Bush Camp is set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa and enjoys views of perennial waterholes. The 4 reed-and-thatch en-suite chalets are uniquely designed with two large skylights (protected by mosquito gauze) allowing you to experience sleeping under the stars.
So, as you watch Kingdom unfold each week, remember that this is not just a story on your television — it’s a living, breathing world you can experience for yourself.
